As per the latest Kubuntu meeting, we are considering making 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex) fully KDE 4. We will take whatever KDE 4 version is released at that time, most likely 4.1.2 or 4.1.3.

Kubuntu 8.04 will consist of two different releases, the commercially supported one featuring the stable KDE 3.5.9 desktop and a remix featuring the latest release of KDE 4.0. The following is a quick breakdown of the type of support and distributions methods which will be made available to Kubuntu 8.04:

In Ubuntu 6.10, the default system shell, /bin/sh, was changed to dash (the Debian Almquist Shell); previously it had been bash (the GNU Bourne-Again Shell). The same change will affect users of Ubuntu 6.06 LTS upgrading directly to Ubuntu 8.04 LTS. This document explains this change and what you should do if you encounter problems.

I can understand the reasoning, though, supporting either KDE 4.0 (immaturity issues) or KDE 3.5.x (not in development focus anymore) for a full LTS 3 year cycle would probably be a lot of extra work. I just wonder if the next kubuntu LTS will be 10.04 :P

Though 8.04 is not going to be tagged LTS, upgrading from the first LTS release, Dapper, will still be possible.

I've often wondered why Kubuntu does not have a larger user base. I like KDE, and thought others would too if they tried it.
I don't think the "LTS" tag has a lot of meaning for those of us on this forum. Most of us upgrade to the latest release, whether or not it is "LTS".

I think it is because most people feel Ubuntu is the main focus of Canonical and Kubuntu (and other Ubuntu variants) are just a side note.

Like dibl, I installed Hardy Heron 8.04, so I'm also wondering about the alpha 4 release. Alpha 3 works well, but I'm ready to see what's new and exciting. If you get an answer, please post it here so I can follow along in the alpha path!

Like dibl, I installed Hardy Heron 8.04

No, this will be my initial installation of HH, Matt. I'm going to destroy a perfectly fine Gutsy system, which has KDE 4, Compiz, and VMWare Player 2, among other things, all working just great.

But no HP printer/scanner combos here!

Well, if your experience is like mine, you should be fine! Well, I'm keeping away from KDE 4 at the moment, so maybe you're taking more risks than I did!

My HP photosmart C4200 Scanner / Printer combo works fanfabuloustastic

And now that I installed 8.04 (with HPLIP 2.7.12), my HP Photosmart C8180 is working fanfabuloustastically as well! It's a great printer, by the way. Not only does it do everything really well, it also has a Lightscribe DVD burner built in, which shows up as another DVD drive in Kubuntu!

well the strange audio problem I'm having with Gutsy is urging me to get my guts up to try out Hardy.. I'm gonna be reinstalling this weekend anyway.... so why not eh?

Bear in mind, that this particular .iso is going to be very prone to 'breakage' and is (intended) for the hardy (no pun intended) souls wanting to test the 'latetest and greatest' of the upcoming HH final release.
