    Re: Can't boot install cd

I had the same problem when I downloaded from the daily build. The older link: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/re...stall-i386.iso worked fine for me.

    I hope it helps,

      Re: Can't boot install cd

I for one am not talking about the daily images, but the official flight 6.

For those who're interested, this is already reported as a bug in launchpad, as bug #38317.
I gave a heads up to this thread in launchpad.

Re: Can't boot install cd **READ THIS**

If you are like me you used the floppy to boot to the main menu. From here I tried to select "install to hard disk" it booted the kernel and then my screen went blank. The fix I found for this was to hit F4 and select something like 1024x768 @ 32. (at least this worked for me) this will change the resolution obviously for the install but the install does work.

I still do not like having to use a floppy but I assume this will be fixed before the final....or else what in the world did we wait an extra 6 weeks for.

Me personally I used a nearby windows pc to make the floppy. I used rawwrite win to do it. I have the link at the bottom.

            1. load the cd
            2. load "good" floppy
            3. open rawwrite
            4. in the "image file" field, click the button to the right to browse.
            5. browse the "install" folder of the cd.
            6. make sure "all files" is selected in the "Files of type" field.
            7. select "sbm.bin" from the list, OPEN button :-)
            8. click "write"

Hopefully this will get you a bootable floppy, just make sure to set your bios to boot from floppy too, I never do so I forgot this at first.  Someone may have something easier, but this was handy for me. Don't forget the tip I gave about the resolution if you have problems installing from here.

Thanks for the info, but using windows to make it possible to boot a linux install cd? wow that is wierd.

Read the first page, where you can see how to make the floppy from that image with dd on linux.

Still wondering if this problem shouldn't be reported somewhere official. I'll refer to this thread when I do.
We shouldn't have to resort to floppies when our systems support booting from CD...

Thanks.. and if you currently only have a Windows partition?

edit: ignore, shoulda read the rest of the thread.

Thanks but i still don't see the sense in going back to the stoneage of suse 5.1 when you HAD to boot from a floppy.

I'll just wait. my breezy is very breezy.

I tried that too, no go.

anyway i guess i'll just wait. Or download the ubuntu version, install with expresso and install kde-kbuntu afterwords).

If it works i'll let you know.

                        Cheers

                          Re: Can't boot install cd

I'm having the same problem. MD5 checksum is correct, CD is booting from my HP Compaq nx6110 laptop, but do not from my desktop PC ;/ I solved it with floppy drive (I had to borrow it from my friend), but I saw, that this is not only my problem. Previous version 5.10 booted fine, there is sth wrong with this release only.

PS. I tried LiveCD, it is booting fine, but when I have to choose my keyboard layout there is an error, that is causing installer to close... Not good
