Locking down Plasma 5.7

So the Plasma 5.7 video talks about implementing the Kiosk framework, 1:15 mins in

So I searched the KDE git archive and the Kiosk tool hasn't been updated in like 3 years! I then stumbled on Confine ( http://quickgit.kde.org/?p=confine.git ), which as the description says, is a "Replacement to the KIOSK tool". So I grabbed a copy and it seems to be a Plasma 5 port!

Does anyone have experience with the Kiosk Tool and how it functions? I've thrown together some initial packaging for it and uploaded it to the Yakkety PPA on my Launchpad account.

I've installed the one in my PPA but I'm not sure how it works Just a window with buttons on it !

I would guess on the left you create a new restrictions profile and set some default restrictions, then use the pane/button on the RHS to edit that config and apply it back to the profile.

Then when happy apply that profile to an actual user via the other tab?

That's purely a guess based on that pic though..... I could be dead wrong.

I never used the full kiosk tool, but I helped a friend lock down her mom's PC using the "Immutable" bit setting. That was KDE4 but I put

in ~/.kdeglobals and all the files with "plasma" in the name.


Not only does it restore the setup, it totally removes the option to unlock widgets and nothing is adjustable.

You can also use the chattr command to make files immutable.

I realize these aren't pretty GUI tools, but they might help you.
