My adept updater and Kaffeine player will not start, they both just give u the little hour glass thing then doesn't come on.

Can you use the adept manager
from the run command:
kdesu adept_manager
As far as I know you can update from there. -

try a ps ax | grep adapt or ps ax | grep kaffeine and see if they are running, then try a sudo top in order to kill the processes if they are running. top has a nice help section simply press h when you get inside the program and you should be able to figure out how to kill a process.
