    Installing firefox

Im new, to kubuntu and to linux systems aswell. I am having problems getting into my email with Konqueror, (hotmail.com) So i wanted to see if it got better if i downloaded FireFox. So i have, but i have no idea how i install it. I try to do what the readme file says, but i seem to be doing it wrong.

sorry if this post is in the wrong section.

    thanks

    Hi

Firefox is already installed in Kubuntu. Go to launch menu >Internet> Firefox will be in there no need to install it.

      Re: Installing firefox

      hi

its not already installed in my version of kubuntu, konqueror is the only webbrowser ive got

if i open adept manager and search for firefox, i find it "status not installed" and i have chaged the request from "no change" to "install" but when i try to apply changes, kubuntu requires me to insert a cd, but i dont have that cd...

some clues to whats going on?

Firefox isn't installed in default kubuntu (as konqueror is the default browser)...of course if you have installed ubuntu first and the added kubuntu firefox will be installed (as it's the default browser for ubuntu)

Chances are that the online repositories weren't enabled during installation (maybe your network wasn't correctly configured during installation or the cable was unplugged?)

First thing to check is that the repositories are enabled:

In Adept, goto view>manage repositories and enable all grayed out repositories (right-click on a repository and choose 'enable') don't forget to 'apply' your changes.

You can also open up the repository list with a text-editor:
        Code:
        kdesu kate /etc/apt/sources.list
And remove '#' in front of lines that start with '#deb' and save

Now after clicking 'Fetch Updates' in Adept, you should be able to install Firefox (and other software) from the repositories.

Then put a # in front of the line that has a CD-ROM in it.

Err...disappeared? Were you running the command from the Run Dialog rather than Konsole, if so you have to enable 'run in terminal' in the settings.

However, if you can't install it with adept or synaptic, apt-get probably won't work either. Could you post your /etc/apt/sources.list file so we can have a look if there's something amiss there?

                        Re: Installing firefox

Problem Solved (4 me) After doing this NOTHING was greyed out.

I had same problem and tried most of the suggestions but to no avail.
What finally did the trick was a simple Konsole command:

                        sudo apt-get update

Be sure to close Adept/Add Remove Programs first. I think you get sharing violation errors if you don't.

It may be as simple as doing an apt-get update or it may be a combination of some of the other suggestions along with the apt-get update, cannot say for sure.
