[Graphics] external monitor not recognized on Kubuntu 19.04 Thinkpad x1g6

Hey guys, new to kubuntu.

so when i plug in a hdmi cable the laptop screen goes black for a sec. The external screen will not be recognized though, in the display settings only the laptop screen is shown.
I have xserver-xorg-video-intel installed and its up to date.

I could not find this particular problem on google so I posted here.
