There is an image that appears on opening the OS between the Login Screen and Desktop

I am configuring my new build and wanted to change the background image. Keep in mind I believe the default is perhaps the most beautiful yet from the KDE design team. I am just personalizing my computer for a while.

I like the B/W images used in water-fire and splash images of ice-cubes. I easily changed the Background of the Desktop and the Login Screen, however there is a screen that appears, when I login, that displays the default KDE screen briefly prior to the appearance of the KDE Desktop I have chosen. The opening then becomes out-of-balance.

I would like to know the name and location of that image file, so that I can change it to something more in balance with the B/W splash-ice-cubes theme. Thanks! Oh, the one that knows this one is probably desirous of changing the background of the screen that appears when choosing the OS in a dual-boot situation. Me too

I have NO CLUE that has any meaningful use.

However, if you mean "System Settings/workspace appearance/splashscreen" then is it possible, notice that this is a question, that Kubuntu looks for the "normal pathway", and that "flashes" while it is going to the new image which you have inserted? dunno, just a question and probably of little worth.

HOWEVER, As I understand it, the splash screen is stored in Plymouth.

    That is in:

    /lib/plymouth/themes/

However, all that I found in there is script reference to "images/tile.png".

I tried a search for it, but didn't find it but then there are a LOT of .png images on this machine so ...maybe too many rum 'n cokes, dunno.

if you could find it, and that is, indeed the GRUB splash image, then you should oughta maybe rename it to XXX01.png, and name the image you want to "tile.png"

    but, maybe worth a shot.

It is definately the "Splash Screen". In System Settings>Workspace Appearance and Behavior>Workspace Appearance>Splash Screens - this is the location of the installed splash screens for selection.

I located their address as: /usr/share/kde4/apps/ksplash/themes - Nevertheless, I cannot create a folder; the computer won't allow. I thought about putting the proper folder and png in the the one marked None, but I don't want to chance that it would screw things up.

I wonder how the downloaded themes are placed in that folder? If I knew that, perhaps I could create the proper files and folders and install them the same as they are currently installed when you download new themes.

I am going to wait a bit to see if someone with more experience can help, but I checked, by installing a different splash and also none, and am quite sure that is the proper name and location for any I want to add.

When I apply the 'None' option, it skips that page when opening the computer. The appearance is a little jerky and not smooth, but it is better than having a totally other theme popping up between my Login image and my desktop.

If I get this thing figured out, I will enter an organized solution to the problem, so that you and others can make a similar change if you like. Thanks for the help; it got me pointed in the right direction.

that is the right place ,,,,,but you must be root to do anything hear ,,,,,,open a root dolphin with
        Code:
        kdesudo dolphin
and edit as you please .

I would just place the background image you want in the curently working splash theme's size folders (yyy x yyy) as background.png ,,,,,,sized as each folder is named .

I have done this befor .

you can allso make a .tga image and place it in /boot/grub for grub to display the same background .

        VINNY

O and if you search the "how to's" you will find instructions on how to change the Plymouth boot up background as well ,,,,to have a totaly seamless grub to login ......

Hi friend, I attempted to do as you said, however, I am still too inexperienced to make the change without more help. I looked at each of the themes that Kubuntu included. Each contained a combination of folders, images or documents. Each had an .rc which I suppose is a script saying what to do. I suspect that folder has to be entered using Kate.

I would like to use my background image for the splash, as well as, the entry in root (plymouth) to make my computer opening harmonous. I would even like to change the background on the screen that offers the choice of operating system. Is that possible?

When a person makes the changes I want to make, what is that called? In computer terminology, I mean. I would like to google looking for a tutorial to read about it. Perhaps even I could then understand the process. Thanks if you are willing to help more.
