    unclean file system [0, 1]

    Hey,
I have tried to install Kubuntu today, i have made an install disk, i select 'start', and a huge "KUBUNTU" text appears onscreen. When i press ESC, there some text appears, like "unclean file system (0, 1)" or "file i/o error". How do I fix that and install Kubuntu?

    Hi
And, welcome to a very friendly forum!

I would ask a question which may, or may not, have anything to do with your question.

You used the term "install disk". That is not "really" a "standard term". The standard term is ".iso" or some such ...USUALLY.

    There is also "installation" disk,.

So, the question is something like this. I don't know if you are here from another distro or directly from MS world, so if you are directly from MS world, the big long list of " formats" in a burner for cds/dvds, usually places ".iso" waaay down at the bottom, and if from MS world you may have made a "windows type install disk" of some kind.

But, of course if you are experienced in Linux I am sure that you did, indeed, make an ".iso".. so could you please mention the file type of what you burned for the assistance of people much more experienced than myself.

Again, WELCOME to the forum, and I am sure that someone will be along shortly to help.

And don't be a stranger! We would really like to have you join our merry crowd!

Congratulations on burning your first Linux CD. The Kubuntu CD's (well actually it should be a DVD because of the size of the iso file) is a live disk meaning that you can use it to boot up your computer and use the operating system and all its software directly from the disk. As well as use it to install Kubuntu on your computer.

The next thing you should do after burning the disk is to get verified to make sure that there are no "missing" bits which can cause problems when trying to install it.

On the download page it should have provided you with a MD5 checksum which when checking on your computer should calculate the sum as posted on the website.

        Code:
        md5sum /path/to/file/name_of_iso_file.iso
This will calculate the checksum which you compare with what is quoted on the site.

Once the checksum has been verified you can then burn it to disk (or USB) then your ready to install it to your computer.

To install it, insert disk (or USB) re-boot pc and follow instructions as they appear on the screen, making sure that you have backed up all your files that you want to keep before hand.

I hoe that this has helped, should you have any further questions just let us know.

          One more question before installation...
How smoothly will Kubuntu run on 1,61 GHz and 576 MB RAM?

how well dose the live cd run .....512-RAM is vary low for kde-4.x.x. I would turn off all kwin affects and install the "kubuntu-lowfat-settings" package as well or go with some thing lighter on a system .

KDE will not run well and most likely not at all, just the installer will need a bare bones minimum of 1 gig RAM and the 1.6 GHz cpu will be highly taxed.
                  A lighter desktop distro will work better for you. My recommendations would be;

                  Xubuntu
                  Lubuntu
                  AntiX

That will work for you until you can pump up the size of the RAM(more is always better).

Rarin runs just fine on a Toshiba L35 ... 1.86 gighz with one gig of ram that I installed.

I have tried installing Lubuntu but I have the same problem I had while installing Kubuntu.

I select "Try (K/L)ubuntu without installing". After 3 minutes a big (K/L)ubuntu text appears onscreen. I wait 10 minutes and nothing happened. When I press ESC this text appears:
                      Code:
The disk contains an unclean file system (0, 0).
The file system wasn't safely closed on Windows. Fixing.

How did you 'made an install disk'? From what you are describing here, it seems that you didn't actually create a LiveCD/DVD.

As I indicated in my previous post, using a "windows" centric "burner" might not actually make a .iso.

If ALL other options don't seem to work, there is "Deepburn" it will allow you to make ONE .iso and then ask for money.

DeepBurn was the original windblows option for burning .isos.

But.....again...........if you look in Windows "burning" options, it...."should" offer...........waaay down at the bottom of the huge list the option of burning an .iso as the very last option but that may have been removed by microslop.

Or the OP's burner is going bad.
