    Trouble getting modem to open

I recently loaded Kubuntu. I have smartlink modem. I keep getting message-looking for modem and/or looking for modem at which point set up locks up and I have to terminate setting up my dial-up connection. How can i get computer to recognize modem. All my audio & sounds work, but I would like to go on-line using dial-up. Thanks to any one who can help as I am new to linux.

Re: Trouble getting modem to open

    Hi Dougie
you did not mention the model of your modem, If it a winmodem some times called soft modem it is hard if not imposable to get them to work with linux as most of the modem functions are in software and are not built in to the modem itself.
If it is not a winmodem and you do not get a better reply than this you could try including the model and the fact that is not a winmodem and posting in the hardware forum.

    good luck John

Didn't I respond to your OTHER POST ON THE SAME TOPIC? I believe I gave a reference to a howto with instructions on getting a Smartlink modem to work.
