That is likely the cause of your troubles installing; Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 65x/M650/740 PCI/AGP.
Try editing the kernel parameters and adding vga=xxx where xxx represents the mode. Check here for a list of possible modes.
When I hit F6 on a Lubuntu 12.10 Alt CD, it says the vga=788, I booted the "Boot-Repair" cd and used it to set a vga value. It was not 788 though, but I tried that. No luck. I manually edited the vga=xxx to vga=788 and hit apply(update-grub from cli did not work for some reason), rebooted, and still got the boot loop. I rebooted to boot-repair to confirm the edit stuck, and indeed vga=788 was still there.
