Possible automatic wireless connection?

Is it possible to automatically connect to a wireless LAN?

Right now I have to open the Kwireless assistant and manually select the network. Can this be automated so I am connected to wlan at start up? After all, the wired connection eth0 does that.

yes, you need network-manager and knetworkmanager(if you use kde). Use adept or synaptic to install install network-manager and knetworkmanager. If you need any help doing this feel free to ask.

I installed the network-manager and knetworkmanager, unfortunately, they don't work.

I get a list of available networks, but I can't actually connect. I tried altering the settings... still no go.

It seems to get to configuring the device and there it just stops.

I can still connect from the wireless assistant, just not from knetworkmanager. And they should be one and the same, surely?
