What Backend is being used? Here, on my HP Pavilion g7, I'm using Gstreamer.

I don't see an Audio device listed above. Why? Do you have any audio at all, any where in Linux?

The audio has worked randomly, most of the time Dummy Output. I can tell you when I will have a session with audio because I can heard a "pop" right after booting. However, I cannot independently verify whether or not my sound card is damaged.

Re: HP Pavilion dv 2500 Dummy Output Kubuntu 11.11

Well, based on the fact the lspci doesn't report an audio device as present (even though the laptop does have an audio controller), I'd be inclined to be thinking that the audio controller is/has died. How old is the laptop? I note that HP no longer offers it.

Like 4 years. Do you think is the audio controller is dead or the audio device?

Re: HP Pavilion dv 2500 Dummy Output Kubuntu 11.11

Have you tried plugging in headphones? If you have, do you get sound through them? I'm going to guess that, even if you have, that you don't get sound through them either. If true, I'm still very inclined to think that the audio controller has, in fact, died.

But, there is a very easy test to prove/disprove that. Boot from a LiveCD. If you have working sound, then it isn't your hardware.
