    Default Firewall?

I just can't seem to get everything right to connect my Kubuntu machine to the Windows box on my LAN.

I used kcontrol to set up Samba. For some strange (to me) reason, the File Sharing section is grayed out.

I set a couple of folders to be shared.

I added the Windows IP to the hosts, including dragging an lmhosts file from my Mepis partition.

But when I try to create a link to a Samba share in Konqueror, it says it can't see any workgroups. I have the workgroup specified in both machines. Konqueror suggests that a firewall may be in the way. There's not one in the Windows machine.

Does Kubuntu install with an enabled firewall by default?

    Setting Up a Firewall

There is no option during installation to configure a firewall, and Kubuntu includes no graphical firewall configurators. Kubuntu installs with no open ports, so strictly speaking it doesn't need one.
I'm using Firestarter to configure open ports (when i need)
firestarter - program to manage and observe firewalls
    kdesu firestarter
