Installing java (jre for games and such i think) on kubuntu 11.04 64 bit

I've tried looking on the internet but everything i've done hasn't worked. At the moment i'm installing some java packages in kpackagekit to hopefully fix this but i don't know if it will work.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Open a terminal and run

sudo apt-get install icedtea-plugin

That should solve your problem.

In the few instances where I've needed Java (Juniper's SSL VPN, for example), icedtea and OpenJDK didn't work for me. I had to install the real thing from Sun Oracle.

skixus, are you still experiencing problems?
