    modem not in Network Settings

I am running Kubuntu 6.06 and have an external modem connected through the serial port.
I can find the address of the modem using wvdialconf, but ifconfig and Network Setting only show my ethernet card.
    Any suggestions?

unless you have ppp up and running with an internet connection you won't see anything in ifconfig.

kppp askrieger is talking about can be configured under kmenu/internet/kppp(dial up tool).

If you have trouble setting up a new modem in the modem tab use the dev you saw recognized in wvdialconf, for example /dev/ttyS0 as the modem device.
