kded4 Bug? Any Work arounds yet?

I know there have been some problems with kded4 locking up the systems, You can see these reports at:

I'm currently using a VPN and would like to find out if someone has a work around on this problem! It is an annoying bug and I would like to keep using Kubuntu instead of booting up Windows 7 just because It is more responsive and helps my battery last longer on this laptop!

Just to let people know I did find a solution. Just install KNetworkManager to fix the problem until they fix the plasma widget and makes it work friendly with the network!

The problem is apparently due to the networkstatus service, which KNetworkManager does not use.
The "fix" was found in one of the sub postings of the bug report.
