I am using Kubuntu 10.10 and while KPPP had no trouble finding and setting up my modem (a USR/3Com internal), and will dial out and connect, for some reason the browser acts like there's no connection. I've looked at the Network Manager in the system tray, and it doesn't show the modem, only the ethernet card which I don't use. I have a USB wifi plug-in unit, and if I plug that in the Network Manager sees it right off, only I don't have any signals strong enough where I live to use it. I've tried different browsers (Chromium, Konquerer, Firefox) and nothing seems to get the modem and browser together. Is there some setting or something else I'm missing here?
