Kubuntu 10.10 on i386 PC.
Just installed a 'new' wired network printer - Brother MFC-6490CW - but nothing is printing from the PC.
The Brother CUPS and LPR software have been installed from the Brother website, along with their recommended dependencies. All connections appear OK.
The printer prints its own test page fine and PING sends and receives the data tests 100%.
An Applet pop-up sometimes appears saying 'printer may not be connected'. And when looking at system settings for printers, upon closing the panel an error message pops-up saying CUPS Server Error - System Settings - there was an error during the CUPS operation: 'client-error forbidden.'
The previous printer - Epson - installed and worked fine on the network.
Help towards a solution much appreciated with thanks in advance to respondents.
