    I broke it! :( [SOLVED]

I was trying to shutdown the X server so I could install nvidia drivers. Pressing ctrl-alt-F1 only gave me a frozen copy of my KDE screen. I opened up a terminal and did 'sudo init 1' to change the runlevel, and my monitor said NO SIGNAL and shut off. I've rebooted twice, and it keeps going back to the monitor being shut off. I know the computer is running because I can ssh into it from another desktop. How do I get my KDE back?

Can you reboot "Recovery Console"? And then choose "Fix X", for starters --- that should get you a basic VESA display. Then you can proceed to install the Nvidia driver.

Strange... while logged in via SSH I did 'sudo shutdown -r now' and the computer booted back up just fine.
