kubuntu or kde display setting

I am on a thinkpad R40. I did not care for windows so I tried ubuntu 10.04 portable. it was so-so (new language learning curve) then I decided to try kubuntu 10.04 portable.
I feel like it was a big mistake........................
1)display brightness cant see the display cant change the display
2)display size too small wont change
what give very user unfrendly
i dont want to but may need to go back to windows whata pain this is

I'm sorry to learn about your frustrating initial experience with Kubuntu. I'm really not an expert on 8-year-old laptops that were originally delivered with (what was then) an obsolete graphics processor, however, you might achieve better results by installing the proprietary ATI Radeon drivers.
