    EPSON RX700 issue

    Hi!
I have recently installed Kubuntu on my machine and it is working quit well, except... that I own an EPSON RX700 printer and the driver provided with the instalation of kubuntu don't let me choose wich tray to use when I print. My printer have 3 trays: one for documents; one for Photos; and one for printing directly into CD/DVD. It is this last tray, the CD printing one that is realy necessary for me to work with!
What I want you to help with is to point me a driver or other alternative that let me use the printer and choose witch tray to print with.
Will be apreciated for your help.

    Kind regards,
    elisionista

Have you tried the Linux Drivers and Software from Epson? - https://www.epson.co.uk/Printers-and...u&language=/en

No, because there aren't any available!

Interesting. The link to Epson's site is written to identify the OS of the visitor, and Linux is properly identified, but yes, there are no drivers for this model.

Not that it will result in an immediate driver, but I'd write Epson and point out, that if they had Linux drivers, they would sell more of their printers to Linux users.

Have you seen "Epson Stylus Photo RX700--install success"? - http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=85283

It mentions Printer and Scanner but does not specifically mention CDs

A nearly five-year old post. A lot has changed since then, so it (likely) won't work, but it is worth a shot. I note that the poster only says "You should now be able to print." (my emphasis) He doesn't actually say it does print, although it is implied. :P

I have installed GIMP and now I can select the tray's when using GIMP and Open Office, but the rest of the aplication still doen't work.
I would like to thank you guys for giving yourselves the trouble of finding a resolution for my problem. However, if someone knows a drivers that allows me to manage the printer resorces in all aplications, lett me know.

              Best regards,

Did you follow the instructions, download the .rpm file, convert it to a .deb package file using alien, and then install it?

The general solution to all printing problems in Linux is to consult openprinting.org. In your case, their suggestion is Gutenprint. I thought (I could be wrong) that Gutenprint was installed automagically, but there are a number of auxilliary packages which may or may not be installed. You can use your favorite package manager to check and see what you can find. Unfortunately, I don't think the package descriptions are complete enough to mention printing on CDs.
