    NTFS partition. Files go missing.

    Hey,I'm currently using Kubuntu 9.10.
    I have a 10GB ext2 partition for kubuntu,and a 280GB windows NTFS partition.
The problem is,when I transfer files from the ext2 partition to the NTFS partition, and boot windows,it runs a disk check and those files just Vanish.

Also,if I'm downloading a torrent file in kubuntu, and the destination directory is a folder in my NTFS partition, the downloaded file doesn't appear in windows.

(I tried getting a /home FAT32 partition, but turns out I can only make a partition of ~10GB, after defragmentation of the NTFS partition, because of some immovable system metadata)

There are a number of bug reports on Launchpad concerning NTFS, for newer kernels (2.6.31+). If you go to launchpad bugs and use "ntfs" for a search, you'll get an eyeful. Probably one of them is relevant to your issue.

      I somewhat solved it.
I figured I have to dis-mount the NTFS partition before shutting down,

Now how do I get it to auto-dismount when I shutdown?

If it is an internal drive, you should make a mount line in your /etc/fstab file. Then it will be automatically mounted on boot and dismounted on shutdown. I don't use NTFS and don't have an example handy, but there have been prior posts on this forum, on the topic.

do you have ntfs-3g and ntfsprogs installed ?

I do the things your discribing all the time with no prob.

my ntfs drive is not in fstab but shows in the places panell in dolphin (F9 to open or close the panel) and can be mounted/umounted frome thare.............but even if left mounted at shutdown gets unmounted by the system during shutdown.

the onley time I'v had what you discribe happen is if the box got powerd off without shuting down properley!!
