I am having a bear of a time upgrading to 9.04 and was only attempting it in order to get a wireless usb adapter working with WICD. Does anyone know if there is a way to just install it in 8.04?

Re: Can WICD be installed in 8.04
I found a link, where wicd was used on April 2008 in Ubuntu (http://www.ubuntugeek.com/wicd-wired...or-ubuntu.html), so I think you have it in Kubuntu 8.04 repository too and can be installed. I can't prove it, as I have 9.04 now.Kubuntu 16.04 on two computers and Kubuntu 17.04 on DELL Latitude 13

Re: Can WICD be installed in 8.04
I have wicd running on version 8.04. Just pull up Adept and add the following line to the third party repository list:
deb http://apt.wicd.net hardy extras
Use either Synaptic or Adept and allow it to update the repository list and then search for "wicd".
You do know that if you install wicd it will uninstall and take the place of Knetwork manager?
Cheers!
