    cleaning out mozilla thunderbird

Using filelight I noticed what looks like an inordinate space on /home taken up by mozilla thunderbird. Except for messages copied to saved directory I don't care about older messages. Ayn way to cull that directory?

T-Bird (and some other browsers) do not delete emails when you delete them or when you Empty Trash.
After deleting/emptying Trash, you must also do
    highlight local folder

In Thunderbird, under Edit>Preferences>Advanced>Network&Diskspace is an option to automatically compact folders whenever it will save however many KB you choose. Set it pretty high or it will bug you a lot, not letting you do anything while it is compacting the folder. I have mine set for 5000 KB.

Never occurred to me that T-Bird had provided a facility for an auto-compacting method (or to search the Mozilla site!).

          Thanks for that tip, Detonate.
