    cannot get my resolution right

I cannot get my resolution right .... it's 800 x 600 with a monitor that can do 1400 X 1000 or something close to that.

    Monitor : Westinghouse lcd Model # L2046NV

    DEll computer dimension 3000

running windows ona 300 gig drive

Trying to run kbuntu on a 100 gig drive

video cards intel integrated with mother board (ACTIVE)

nvidia gforce fx 5500 (INACTIVE-want to get the intel working first)

I tried getting this to work with ubuntu but it would not do anything that anyone suggested it simply did not ever recognize the limits of my monitor and no amount of manual adjustment would actually work.

    are there any suggestions?

    thanks very much ,
    Nate

Re: cannot get my resolution right

try setting the driver to vesa in xorg.conf, then manually adjusting the resolution or try
      Code:
      sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
      refer http://www.freesoftwaremagazine.com/...kg-reconfigure

        umarzuki:

this is the result of that command you sent to me and i went to the site and nothing to fix it ?

        thanks,
        Nate

        sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xservr-xorg
Package `xservr-xorg' is not installed and no info is available.
Use dpkg --info (= dpkg-deb --info) to examine archive files,
and dpkg --contents (= dpkg-deb --contents) to list their contents.
        /usr/sbin/dpkg-reconfigure: xservr-xorg is not installed

is this possible that xservr-xorg is not installed?? i'm using kbuntu of course..!

Re: cannot get my resolution right

After using the command given me by umarzuki shouldn't i get a configuration window ??
I don't get anything but this result

          nate@KbuntoFast:~$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
          [sudo] password for nate:
xserver-xorg postinst warning: overwriting possibly-customised configuration
          file; backup in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.20080904165646
          nate@KbuntoFast:~$

what do i do about this warning

          thanks,
          Nate

Re: cannot get my resolution right

            3 bits of info please:

What version of kubuntu are you running
What is the model number of your intel graphics card
What intel xorg driver do you have installed. Open adept and and put intel in the search box to find it quickly

Re: cannot get my resolution right

I have now fixed this with everyone's help. The problem was my newbie ignorance of the "Monitor and display " window in "System settings". The resolution was so low that the window was so far off screen and the mouse was jumping around (cursor) that I didn't understand what each thing was doing nor was i able to invoke things i wanted .. I got it on 1280 x 1050 now ... THANKS EVERYONE THANKS A LOT !
