Transfering open office file to external HDD

Hello Everyone
I transferred several, several html, files successfully from an ext3 partition to an external HDD. However and .odt files(oen office document file) would not transfer to the external HDD. Does anyone know wht this is occuring

Did any error message pop-up?

Did the drive get disconnected by accident?
