    Does Kubuntu install Grub automatically?

I know Ubuntu does, but does Kubuntu automatically install GRUB for it's bootloader?

    Yes.

I think the alternate install CD's give you an option to skip or modify GRUB installation (at least they used to), but the regular install/live CD's should install grub automagically (although it's been a while since I used one)

        not correct.

In the options for disk partitioning, there is an advanced menu which allows you to uncheck the grub install option.

Thanks for the correction. As I said, it's been a while since I've used the graphical installer. Does it also allow you to install grub somewhere else than mbr?

Yes, in the same menu you can define the partition you want to install grub to.

and to see this Advanced button ...

                Live Kubuntu installer CD
Step 4: Choose the Manual method (for partitioning)
Step 6: Advanced button at lower right.
There you can specify where to put GRUB, as these guys have said.
But be prepared: know where you want it, in GRUB notation (hdx,y).
The default is (hd0) which is the Master Boot Record of the BIOS first boot drive (where most people put GRUB).
Then come back to Step 6 and click Finish.

If you mess up, the fix is here (without having to re-install Kubuntu):
