    Ram usage

    Hello.

I've decidet to try linux, so first I installed Ubuntu, then Mandriva and now Kubuntu and I must say that Kubuntu simply feels the most comfortable!
But I was wondering about the memory usage. When the system loads, KSysGuard says it is using 266mb of ram. That seems a bit much, I'm not sure, but doesn't ubuntu use almost twice as little? I mean even windows xp with Norton antivirus use less.
    Here is a screenhot: http://img65.imageshack.us/img65/3697/snapshot14xh.png

Another little offtopic question: I'm a lazy spoiled Visual Studio programmer and have no idea how all those make file work, so maybe someone could post a link to an article about programming in linux?

    Thanks.

    Re: Ram usage

Much of that RAM is being used for buffers and cache so your system runs more smoothly. To learn how much RAM you're using the Linux way, start a Konsole (K>System>Konsole) and type "free" (without the quotation marks).

The Kubuntu equivalent of Visual Studio is Kdevelop. Personally, though, I prefer qtdesigner because the help files are better.
