Yet one more sound question.. LOL

    Hey All,
I have another question about no sound. I got an older desktop today.

    Gateway
    Pentium 4
    1.70 GHz
    224 Ram
    20 gig HD

Anyways, I got Kubuntu loaded on it. Using it now. But like my laptop there is no sound. OK, I've been fighting with the laptop enough I get the directions at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=205449

But I did a search for the audio listed by lspci -v

00:11.5 Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8233/A/8235/8237 AC97 Audio Controller (rev 50)
Subsystem: Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. Unknown device 7870
    Flags: medium devsel, IRQ 19
    I/O ports at e000 [size=256]
    Capabilities: <access denied>
    So I look up
VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8233/A/8235/8237 AC97 Audio Controller (rev 50)
    And I find http://hardware4linux.info/component/14768/

Does this mean there is a linux driver that I should just download too get it too work?

    Thanks (again),
    James

What have you tried so far? Does kmix recognize a sound card? Have you verified the volumes are turned up?
