Partitioning Kubuntu

I am kinda a newb at Kubuntu and I was just wondering if yall had any tips on partitioning my external hard drive manually. I want to add a few Linux OS so that I can learn more but Kubuntu doesn't explain what partitions it needs to run so how large should i make each partition if i wan 3 operating systems?And how should I go about it?

You will need (1) SWAP partition about 1-1.5 x's the size of your installed RAM (SWAP in Linux is similar to Virtual Memory in Windows). Then, you can partition the remaining space for your OS's.

Since you are just learning about Linux partitioning, I would suggest creating (1) partition as large as you want for use as your "/home" partition (this is where you will store all your personal information from all your OS's), and (1) separate "/" (or "/root") partition for each OS you install. Total, you would have (1) SWAP partition, (1) /home partition, and (3) /root partitions. Format the /home and /root partitions ext3, and make each /root partition about 7-8GB.

depending on your space and RAM you basically need two partitions:
swap=max. 1GB
/= about 16-40GB depending on your data (this is your root partition whre your Kubuntu will live)

A better way of doing this is:
swap=max. 1GB
/=10-12GB (depending how many apps you intend to install)
/home=4-6GB (this is where your user settings will sit)
/Data=as much as you want depending on your data (movies, music, docs, etc) for sharing and security purposes.
