    Configuring KMail

Gooday all, I am having some difficulty configuring K mail. I have filled in all the info for sending and receiving mail and I can send mail no worries. But when I go to check for new mail I get a message "could not connect to host localhost". Any ideas? Also I cant find Kmail any where on the puter, I have to open a console, type in Kmail and then it opens it up. I have been into add/remove programs and checked the box, but it is nowhere to be found. Once again, any help appreciated.
    Regards, James.

    Re: Configuring KMail

KMail is actually part of Kontact, the Personal Information Manager. You can, like I did, add KMail to the K Menu list of applications and then add it to the quick launcher. To do this:

    1. right-click on the K Menu icon and select Menu Editor
    2. click the plus sign on Internet
    3. click once on Internet
    4. click File | New Item (or click on the New Item icon which is next to the diskette icon)
    5. enter a name (KMail)
    6. enter a Description (Kmail)
    7. enter in Command '/usr/bin/kmail'
    8. click File | Save (or click on the diskette icon)
    9. right-click on the quick launcher
    10. select Add Application
    11. move up to Internet and over to KMail
    12. ta da! KMail is now showing on your quick launcher

As to configuring KMail for your receiving files, once KMail is open, click on Settings | Configure Kmail | Accounts | Receiving If you have not created an Incoming accounts click on Add, otherwise click the displayed account and click Modify. From here you have to enter an Account name (what ever you want to call it), your Login (which is what your ISP gave you - for mine, it takes the format of username@ISPname.net), your password (what you use to logon to your email account), the Host name (your ISP can tell you what this is if you don't already know it - It's the POP Incoming server designation). Check Store POP password. I also check Enable Interval mail checking and set the time to 1 min. With all of this information entered, click OK. If you input all the correct information, you will be able to receive email on your account.

Thanks Snowhog. Got that bit working now. Have a problem though. The topic reply notification that just came has a link to go straight to the post. Click that and I get "could not find the program Firefox". Any ideas on that one. Regards James

        Do you have Firefox installed?

Geezus, I've done it now. Trying to open a link in Kmail and I ticked the box that says "always apply this action" or something like that. Which wouldn't be a biggie if the action worked. How do you change that setting? Regards James.

              Re: Configuring KMail

I think you will need to do, from Konqueror, is Settings | Configure Konqueror | File Associations and then look through the entries. If you can remember what the link was, that will help. Once you think you've found it, you can delete the item. BE CAREFUL!

Snowhog, I have had a look at that and I'm stuffed if I know how I would do what you suggest.
