    Serious problem in Kubuntu

    Hi reader,

I have a Core 2 Duo (2.00 Ghz) with 512 MB DDR2 RAM and 160 GB NTFS Formatted hardrive in my pc..and ofcouse Windows xp SP2
When i first loaded this live cd i was dumb struck with d speed and the KDE.
    I m learnin ubuntu at ma colg...but..
    how do i install it?
My PC has 4 partitions(all ntfs)
    1. WINDOWSXP 20 GB
    2. <empty> 40 GB
    3. Softwares 40 GB
    4. Media 60 GB

How do i install kubuntu on 2?
[plz plz give a step by step help]
Also i dont want to get a scratch on other partitions!
When i click on 'STORAGE MEDIA' (kubuntu live cd)it shows all partitions but does not open them.
However when i used Ubuntu live cd, it opened them but didnt allow me to write..
would these circumstances remain as is..even after installin LINUX?

Please forgive for any objectionable language.
