k3b issue

I go to KInfoCenter and it detects my DVD writer (SATA) and then go to k3b -> Settings -> Configure k3b and it is found in devices at dev/scd1. So I go to burn an iso, and in the Burn Medium section it says "Please insert an empty DVD+-R(W) medium..." however it has been in there (so much so that I have an icon on my desktop for Blank CD-R (cdrom1) (it is DVD+R though)

how do I get it to detect the disk so that it will burn it?

This may seem like a dumb question, but is your writer a DVD+- writer? If not it will refuse your dvd+R.
