    lan card install

Introduction: sorry for my bad English; i am new to kubuntu and linux; i would like to use this wonderful system.

Problem: My previous LanCard has broken. I've got a new one, called RTL8139D. I googled and found: kernel supports this card, but i cannot connect to the internet. When i click on manual config i see no detected lancard.

Additional info: i (would like to) use Kubuntu 7.04 and my motherboard is abit nf7.

    Re: lan card install

The RealTek RTL8139D is a chipset that might be used in any one of a number of LAN cards. According to the Ubuntu Community Help Wiki, it failed to make an ethernet connection in the Compaq Presario V2417LA laptop, worked in the Acer Aspire 5051 laptop, and failed to connect when used on a Dynamode NC-100TX-DI ethernet card. So it seems to depend on the card that you are using. I admit that I'm a little surprised because I have always thought that wired networking "just worked" in Linux.
