How often are the ISOs updated http://www.kubuntu.org/download.php. It says version 7.04 still, but there have been a lot of updates since my first install. If I format and reinstall with a newly downloaded ISO will I then have less updates to get? If I wanted to install on multiple machines, would it be more worthwhile to get the latest ISO instead of running updates on each and every machine?

The simple answer is 'no.'
The ISO version numbers are for significant updates. The updates you are referring to are updates to packages that have been installed on your system. This is normal. At times, there could be many package updates; at other times, just a few.Windows no longer obstructs my view.
