Speed up boot process but now...

    Hi everybody,

I've been running Ubuntu and Kubuntu at home since June 2006 or so and I love it !

I recently read How-to : Speed up Ubuntu boot process and gave it a try.
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=89491&page=6

I turned off some of the non-important services such as pcmia, bluez-uti$, fetchmail, etc. as I do not use these and it is a desktop.

When I rebooted, I got as far as the log-in screen but my password does not work anymore.

Did I really dork something up or is it just an issue with the password?

I've learned a lot about linux and computers but not quite enough.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    lgeaplq-Jim

If you were able to produce a list of what services you actually dunked I would crosscheck with my main system (Kubuntu 06.10 as workstation) and/or try to "evaluate" their importance ... (?)

Re: Speed up boot process but now...

I was doing some searching to find a way to get log back in to my desktop and found:
      # passwd system_main_username
so I could try to change my password to something that will work again.

Sorry to say I did not print out a before and after as I did not think I was changing anything too important.

My problem right now is logging in after having changed some of the processes.

      Thanks.

Well, I tried the recovery option at boot-up.
I changed my password and re-booted.
It still will not let me log in.

Maybe I did change something important while truning off some processes.
How do I change them back without logging onto the desktop?
