Releases

Ubuntu releases are supported for 18 months. Ubuntu LTS (Long Term Support) releases are supported for 3 years on the desktop, and 5 years on the server.

Schedule
Ubuntu releases every six months, one month after each Gnome release

Summary

With KDE moved to a 6 month release cycle, consider if Kubuntu should move to a cycle which matches KDE. This would mean releasing Kubuntu in February and August, shortly after the KDE release and 4 months after the Ubuntu release...

Outcomes

From the discussion, we considered the advantages of syncing release schedule to KDE are not sufficiently great as to merit overcoming the disadvantages created...

We discussed possible goals for Jaunty including

* Improving package management (maybe even with packagekit)

* kcontrol apps integration
* support MID?

Blueprints

Ubuntu Brainstorm

A blueprint is a feature design document. It describe a proposed feature in enough detail for a developer to implement it (not quite the same as a specification, though that term is often used). Anyone can start a blueprint though some software design or development experience would be useful. After a first draft has been composed the blueprint is typically discussed on a mailing list, forum thread or at a development meeting like UDS....

KDE Schedules

During development, the KDE project sets goals in features and dates for upcoming releases. This way, the team knows when it would be a good time to add a new feature or when it's time to focus on cleaning up any bugs in preparation for a release. Any plans are tentative schedules and the final dates are generally decided on the kde-core-devel mailing list.

Standard alpha, beta, rc warning:

This is an alpha release. Pre-release versions of programs are NOT encouraged for anyone needing a stable system or for anyone who is not comfortable running into occasional, even frequent, breakage. Pre-release versions of programs ARE recommended for developers and those who want to help in testing, reporting, and fixing bugs (or are curious).

Yep it's pretty slick. We're at a real beta now:

Got a nice upgrade tonight! I just got it and haven't noticed anything significant. Under the hood stuff is the best but it'll be nice to actually "see" something also ;o)

I'm getting mine from:

I've had one upgrade since the post I made previous and that was earlier this am. Didn't change any of the numbers from a "kde4-config --version" though.

Well - you are using Project Neon (KDE)

Project Neon (KDE), is part of Amarok's Project Neon, which is creating nightly new binaries of Amarok. As the name suggests, Neon (KDE) does the very same of a selected portion of KDE...

for the Intrepid / Hardy.

This is an expendable Kubuntu installation.

I dist-upgraded from the Intrepid installation, there wasn't JJ CD's back then.

This is the very first roughly working set of images off the production
line, and they haven't all been tested, so you should expect some bugs.
Prominent among these are that some of the images are oversized and can
only be tested using a DVD or a virtual machine, and that the desktop CD
isn't ready yet!

Warning: This image is oversized (which is a bug) and will not fit onto a standard 700MB CD. However, you may still test it using a DVD, a USB drive, or a virtual machine.

At the moment there isn't "Kubuntu Live-CD Daily Build" - maybe tomorrow or day after tomorrow...
