Sad to say, DragonPlayer seems dead-ish. It hasn't gotten any code
changes since January of this year. Kubuntu has stopped shipping it by
default, replacing it with VLC. Bugzilla tickets continue to pile up.

What's the way forward here? Should we look for a new maintainer or
admit defeat and just recommend VLC or MPV or something else?

some one should get in touch with the developer of QMplay2 and see if he will do a plasma5 port (it can as he said be built for Qt5) and adopt it

it was always better than DragonPlayer In my opinion.

There is the 'Easy installation on Ubuntu / Mint': https://github.com/zaps166/QMPlay2/releases

The Qt 5.6.3 shared libs are included to the package - installing them to the /opt/.
