I want to access old forum posts before the switchover to the newer forum pages. Specifically, I want to access the following old post: http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3085703.0 I tried converting this to http://kubuntuforums.net/forum.php?topic=3085703.0 but it doesn't work. Did we lose all the old forum posts or is there some way to translate these URL's?

Most of not all old posts are still there, but as we are using different software all the urls will be different. You can use the search function to look for it by subject, or by user name.
If you have posted to that thread yourself, you can go to your profile and from there you can see all your own posts, which may make it easier to find.

I find searching these forums filled with posts of broken links to answers, a ridiculous waste of my time. I don't remember what caused the disaster that resulted in this loss of links to these old posts on this forum, but I hope people learn from this. If you are posting an answer to a problem and refering to another post, do not just post a link, copy and paste the most important part into your answer so that when these ephermeral links no longer work, the most important information is still accesible.
Most queries I make, pull up too much unrelated stuff to be useful, or have posts that refer to dead links, so after checking out 3 or 4 pages of search results, I give up.

The transition from SMF to vBulletin wasn't completely pain-free; alas, we could find no tool that would scour the complete forum database and rewrite all URLs. The unfortunate side effect of this is that some links in and to older posts will be broken.

Entropy, as expressed by the Second Law of Thermodynamics, is an all pervasive natural force, similar in importance to gravity or electro- magnetism. Its attributes involve the flow of what we call "time". It shows why time travel is impossible and why water only runs downhill. Entropy permeates all aspects of human existence. Entropy explains why it is easy to lose money and difficult to make money. Entropy is the force behind Murphy's Law: Anything that can go wrong, must go wrong.Last edited by OneLine; Nov 15, 2012, 03:34 AM.
