Changing Splash and Bootsplah screens

I've been trying to change the splash and bootsplah screens, but am having a hard time. Getting the screens from www.kde-look.org. I've gotten the splash to work by swapping out the pictures and what not. The bootsplash screens i really just have no clue where to start. If anyone knows how, or could point me in the right direction, that would be great.

Have you been following the instructions from the How to Install Screen?

Or you can try installing from the splash screen config in settings:/LookNFeel/

yeah, I used the splash util in looknfeel, but it just gives errors saying that it can't find the config file etc. But the file is in there.
