Usually, when a new USB disk is mounted, a notifier window pops up indicating what it is. Usually, it goes away if you click elsewhere on the screen.
In one case, where I am mounting a video DVD in and external drive, the bloody notifier won't go away. And it remains on top of everything, including the video I want to watch on the DVD with VLC. (I can't get smplayer to work, but I think that is another problem.) Extremely annoying.
I don't know what the process behind these windows is so I cannot just kill it.
I have often noticed cases where plugging in a USB drive isn't noticed by the system and no notifier window pops up.
Any help with this specific problem or more info about the notification process in general would be much appreciated.
