    Networking

Installed latest Kubuntu and it works great until I started into networking and I can't find a roadmap to do the install. I'm want to use it on a Win Network that has: 1 win98, 2 Win2K, and 2 WinXPs on it. Thru Konquerer I'm able to see all the computers on the network, access files, etc.. However, none of the computers see the Kubuntu machine. I'm pleased with the way things work, but could someone point me in the right direction to finish the install? By the way, I'm able to Ping the Kubuntu machine from each of the Win machines on the network. I don't think it's a firewall problem because all the Win Machines can talk to each other. Thank you in advance.

Disclaimer: I don't do windows networking.

You will need to install/configure samba (sudo apt-get install samba) to let the windows machines browse fileshares/printers. (I'm assuming that's what you meant by 'see'.)

      Re: Networking

Hi: Did as you recommended - using Adept I downloaded and installed the following files: samba, samba-dbg, samba-doc, and samba-doc-pdf. On the files list it shows those programs as being installed, but I can't find anything under the KDE menu - I ASSume (every time you assume, you make an ass out of yourself) that building up samba would run out KDE, but no entries are available to do that. Do you have to do everything from the command line? Any help or ideas would be certainly appreciated.

        Re: Networking

It's a service that runs in the background, so there won't be any entry in the menus. It should start up at boot time automatically.

Configuration I think can be done in the System Settings/Sharing window from the K menu.
