For anyone wanting to know how to transfer files to an amazon Kindle Fire HD see this link:

This worked for me on the "HD", and maybe soon I'll be posting what happened with a "HDX"!
I spent lots of hours searching on how to make this happen until I found this info, so maybe it

Added note to my first post on transfering files to Kindle Fire HD on Linux:
I used Calibre to install ebooks from the Internet. Do not install Calibre from your package manager,
it may not function by not recognizing your kindle/USB connection, Instead go to Calibre's website and follow their instructions to install Calibre binary install at:
http://calibre-ebook.com/download_linux
There is a Calibre Ubuntu tutorial how to use Calibre:

and "See calibre in action" at:
