I just updated to 16.04 and found my launcher now shows odd fonts. This wasn't happening in 15.10 and this seems to be the only screen that's having a problem. Anyone have an idea what's going on? I'm using latest nVidia proprietary drivers.

This problem has solved itself without any changes from me. It persisted across multiple reboots, so that wasn't the problem. But the font is now rendering correctly.
