Can login via command line, but not via kde

    Got this weird problem see,

It's more of an minor annoyance since I can fall back to a command line login and run startx, but...

login via the KDE interface gives me an empty kde screen with a Konsole shell and that's it.

Not a big deal - been livin with it for months now but thought I'd see if someone can direct me on how to reset/fix the issue.

    Thanks,
    Joe

You may have done something a few moths ago

I know I almost always do

    Do you have a kubuntu-desktop?

If you removed kde4 you probably don't.

    If you have removed kubuntu-desktop:
    Code:
sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop adept kdm
    Otherwise try:

    Code:
    sudo dpkg-reconfigure kdm
    if that doesn't help:

    Code:
    sudo apt-get install kdm
    Thjis may help as well:

I hope this points you in the right direction

you can also try removing the .Xauthority file + then try restarting KDM.
