    Windows XP source code leaked

Interesting discussion on whether it was deliberately leaked in order to trap WINE, ReactOS and other emulation platforms for using, or claiming, that part of their source is from this leak.

    Seriously, Reactos? Seriously?

    The tiniest bit of searching:

    Which leads to

Plus, why would MS wait, and wait, and wait, and then wait some more......... Wine's code is free to view, so they would have taken things to court decades ago.

      Interesting analysis:
      https://nakedsecurity.sophos.com/202...leaked-online/

…it’s tempting to take a look.
But unless you really need to look, we’d suggest that you simply let this one go, especially if your interest is just a passingly casual one.
After all, you can’t unsee the code after you’ve looked at it.
And if ever you are in a position where you need to show that you couldn’t possibly have copied someone else’s proprietary code, even if you’d wanted to, you’ll find that harder to do if the other side can show that you definitely did look at it at some point.

Why the insults on such an innocuous post?
        And, I believe you've misapplied Occam's razor.

Occam is one of the three or so acceptable spellings. Reynolds wrap hats are much funnier ...

MS have a huge and lucrative business supporting various old specific versions of Windows for customers that don't want to port applications to current Windows, or can't. Each specific version gets security and hardware patches. I don't think MS would deliberately compromise that business.

I had never heard of ReactOS before so for fun I installed it in a VM. I use Windows 10 for work so I'm pretty familiar with it. I didn't appreciate just how much Windows had changed over the years until that experience. I still hate it, but it's much easier to use than it was. There must be some use-case for React but I don't know it.
