KDE5 Plasma vs Gnome3 - Which is Lighter on FreeBSD 12?

This is a video inspired by a subscriber (sorry forgot who it was, please remind me!) who suggested it would be cool if a comparison video was made for Gnome 3 vs KDE 5 Plasma in terms of which was the heaviest, well here it is ;-) Skip 8:20 to the results if you can't wait...

It's not scientific, just an observation of the accumulative memory use of adding perhaps a widely used set of programs.

That's about right, though plasma can grow in ram usage as you load things, depending on widgets and wallpaper etc.

Plasma at boot uses similar ram to Xfce on Chromebooks, but of course Plasma makes more use of the GPU.


Still, neither desktop is really heavy in this case shown.

I also suspect Plasma 5 may be more optimized for that OS than Gnome is, perhaps.
