Ok
I will keep this VERY simple...
I have been teaching at a private college the last 8 months or so...
and they have PAID an applications guru...to put their CALENDAR...into a spreadsheet!!
Because they have
a) four campuses
b) mulitiple "courses"
c) and within each "course" many..."modules"...
The calendar is:
a) irritating
b) frustrating
c) tedious
d) mind numbing
It is written, as best as I can determine...in C99...i am probably completely wrong...
each "class" is designated by some "kind" of ..."hash"...number... that NObody can understand...
I mean it is not...'Chem 101"...
it is... "19221mod3"
Again...it is ALL...on a SPREADSHEET!!!
It is just possible that one of the original investors had a friend of a friend...or whatever...
or it may be that it done so that is might be very hard to "hack" it...
it is run from one mainframe and fed out to the schools...
one cannot get it on a smartphone it has to be on a "terminal"... and each "terminal", including my home computer has a unique identifier ( not anything new)... but...
It really does give one "pause" ...
one thinks of "a digital calendar"...as a...digital calendar.. maybe .ical, .csv etc.
yes a calendar in a spreadsheet can "look" like a calendar...
and yes it is all a big relational database...
but my hat is doffed to the calendar devs for Kontact, T-bird etc...
how could anyone "interface" with this kind of thing? dunno
