Commentary requested about "future of Linux" system d article

This is an interesting article, parts of which are quite beyond me, but I'd really like to have people who know what is going on to comment on this line from the article.

This conflict( over systemd and upstart and maybe X Window) is part of a greater fight between Canonical and Red Hat over the future of Linux.
    What "future of Linux"?

After the Linux civil war Ubuntu to adopt system d

There is no "war". Only typical political jockeying by front-runners trying to get their favored tool accepted by all. It all evaporated when the big dog barked -- Debian chose Systemd. Canonical could have gone its own way, but it is saves a LOT of time and money riding on Debian's coat tail.

        J. Random User won't know or care about which init system his/her operating system uses -- and shouldn't care, either.

But for those who manage computers, systemd will be a welcome addition to the Linux world. SysVinit, OpenRC, and Upstart don't share much in common. systemd creates a unified init mechanism that simplifies maintenance for those tasked with managing multiple distributions. It's also predictable and much easier to use -- after you've climbed the learning curve.
