Kubuntu Gutsy

I have personally used Ubuntu, Xubuntu, and Kubuntu and I was always one who would bash Kubuntu and KDE every chance I had. But I am beginning to like it.

It has be a mostly pleasant experience. My only real gripe is Konqueror, which is not very compatible with Gmail. Not a problem for some, but I check my email hourly at least and really like the Gmail interface. I even use it to check my other accounts. I guess this is not really Konqueror's fault however seeing it is Google who is not standards complaint. Of course the bug in flash really bugged me, but that was no problem to fix.

Can I say I will forever use KDE? I am not sure at this point. But I can no longer bash it as much as I did at one point. Now I am off to find an awesome Kubuntu wallpaper.

Welcome to the club

My only real gripe is Konqueror, which is not very compatible with Gmail.

Try FF with the gmail manager add-on.

Flash works better with FF as well

G'day, shae.

I totally agree with Fintan's post. I always have F/fox and Konqueror open on their own desktops. What doesn't work with one will work with the other. If they don't work with either (and I have never struck this) I would just not use that site.

oooh, you might also look at interfacelift.com for wallpapers (found some fantastic ones there too).

As far as google and firefox, mine was working fine until I had tried one of the google things that were still in testing stage at the time and it lambasted my firefox. I had tried reinstallation of the firefox (even tried it with complete removal) and it still will not work.

I have been using konqueror since and actually have had little problem (and my google mail, chat, etc. seem to work fine)

I am using Kubuntu Gutsy on a Pentium 3 system (original IBM)

To use Gmail, I had to tell Konqueror to identify as Firefox 1.07. Then Gmail went into unsupported browser mode and did not have the look and features I was use to. Nothing installing Firefox did not fix, although I had to manually replace the Firefox icon so it would not be blurry in the hover-over effect in the quick-launch list (sue me I am picky).

I really miss how fast Konqueror launches. I wonder if you can make Firefox load instances in the background on boot, that would be a neat feature in the future. Is it just me or does the internet seem to slow to a crawl in Konqueror? I understand that its performance on scripts are not the best, but has scripting on websites become so widespread that the whole internet seems slow.

Thanks for the suggestions for finding a nice wallpaper. I will dig through those.
